Description from the seller

Ancient silver salt-cellar in the form of a cauldron with 3 coins, Pontifical State, Pope Pius IX, 1867 - 29g

Splendid and rare object of art and antique tableware from the second half of the 19th century. This is a salt shaker (or spice holder) in silver worked into the shape of a small three-legged cauldron, enhanced by the coordinated setting of three important Pontifical numismatic specimens from the same year (1867).
The body of the piece is decorated with beaded rims along the upper edges and is supported by three spherical ball feet. It features two movable ring handles on the sides. The interior of the basin preserves the original, elegant gold finish as a contrast.
Numismatic Details (The Coins Inserted):
The three visible faces show the complete, coordinated series of the 5 Soldi of 1867 in silver (equal to 25 centesimi of the Pontifical Lira) issued during the 22nd year of Pope Pius IX’s pontificate (Pius IX Pontifex Maximus, A. XXII):
• Side 1: The coin reverse with the central inscription 5 SOLDI 1867 enclosed in a laurel and oak wreath, topped by the wording STATO PONTIFICIO.
• Side 2: The obverse of the coin showing the sharp, detailed profile of Pope Pius IX facing left, with the Latin legend PIVS IX PON. MAX. A. XXII.
• Side 3: The official heraldic emblem of the Mastai-Ferretti family (Pius IX), topped by the triregnum and the crossed keys of Saint Peter, surrounded by the legend PIVS IX PON. MAX. AN. XXII.

Specifications and Condition:
• Era: Around 1867 - Late 19th Century
• Material: Silver structure (Pontifical coins in 835‰ silver) with a gilded interior.
• Total weight: 29 grams
• Conditions: Excellent period condition. The object has not been subjected to aggressive chemical polishing in order to preserve the magnificent and genuine patina of time, highly appreciated by numismatic collectors. No invasive soldering or structural deformation.

Tracked shipping and careful professional packaging to ensure piece integrity. Available to provide additional photos or details upon request.
