Description from the seller

Exclusive Historical Pair of Armchairs
Handcrafted, artistically unique pieces inspired by the Wiener Moderne vs. Jugendstil (UNIKATE)

----------------------------------
PRICE:
Currently realistically estimated value - (set) approx. 3000€
----------------------------------
Description:
This exceptional pair of chairs consists of two individually crafted pieces. Both chairs are handmade and stylistically oriented toward historical furniture designs and the stylistic developments around 1900.
Historical Background
The design sits in the exciting transition from ornamental Jugendstil to the geometrically influenced Wiener Moderne.
While Jugendstil worked with organic lines, floral forms, and decorative ornamentation, designers of Wiener Moderne—especially within the Wiener Werkstätte milieu—developed a increasingly clear, architectural form language. Construction, proportion, and geometric segmentation themselves became essential design elements.
Historical furniture designs from this milieu show, among other things, open frame constructions, rhythmically arranged stiles, geometric structures, and strongly divided backrests. This development also marks the transition to later Art Déco ideas.
The chairs offered here are not original Wiener Werkstätte pieces, but independently crafted unique pieces that clearly orient themselves toward this historical stylistic language and the furniture designs of that era.

Chair 1:
(Markanter - Jugendstil - Herrenstuhl)

The particularly representative gentleman’s chair features a characteristic, fan-shaped backrest with gracefully arranged spindles.
The construction deliberately appears architectural and, in its rhythmic arrangement, recalls historical seating furniture of the reform movements around 1900.
Notable features:
- exquisitely crafted fan-shaped backrest
- solid wooden frame construction
- hand-finished details
- central brocade fabric or brocade inlay
- brass fittings at the leg ends
- regal, throne-like overall appearance

Chair 2:
(Open architectural handcraft in the style of Wiener Moderne.)

The second chair pursues a noticeably more open and lighter design language.
The visible frame construction forms an independent geometric design element and likewise reflects the architecturally influenced form language of Wiener Moderne.

Features:
- open, geometrically segmented frame construction
- solid, real wood
- clear line guidance
- hand-crafted construction
- brass details at the leg ends
Both chairs are independent hand-made pieces and thus unique. They are not part of a mass-produced furniture pair, but rather draw on historical design ideas and implement them in their own ways.
Padding and finish
The chairs are presented in their existing state without additional loose covers or upholstery protectors. The current fabric and padding elements are part of the respective construction.
The brocade fabric of the gentleman’s chair provides a special design accent and stands in clear contrast to the structural woodwork.

Condition and availability:
Signs of use
The chairs are in a state appropriate for age and use, with patina developed over time.
The wood substance is fundamentally stable and load-bearing.
The seat surface on the underside of the gentleman’s chair shows damage or an impression. The chair is basically still usable. For long-term use, proper refurbishment or additional stabilization of the seat from below would be advisable.
All damages, signs of use, and age-related changes visible in the photos are part of the offered condition and documented in the pictures.
No refurbishment or restoration has been carried out.
