Description from the seller

VOC Holland – ½ Duit 1757 – Silver issue – Very rare

Dutch East Indies – United East India Company – Holland

A special silver issue of the VOC half-duit from 1757. The regular type was struck in copper; this silver edition belongs to the exceptional issues in a different metal and is very rare.

Obverse: large interwoven VOC monogram, above it a rosette between two points and below the year 1757.

Reverse: crowned coat of arms of Holland with the rising Dutch lion.

Struck under Mint Master Otto Buck, with the rose as the mintmark. The coin is equipped with a distinctive cable edge, the diagonally arranged ridges around it clearly visible.

The specimen has a bright silver appearance with light natural toning. The VOC monogram and date are clearly defined, while on the reverse both the crown and the Dutch lion are easily recognizable. The well-finished edge completes the presentation.

A very rare VOC silver issue, attractive due to the combination of the unusual metal, the small denomination, and the distinctive cable edge. A special piece for the specialized collector of VOC and Dutch East Indies coinage.
