Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Art Deco brass jardinière on a black lacquered wooden stem, 66 cm high with a 25 cm diameter, dating to ca. 1930–1940 and made from spun brass with wood.
Description from the seller
A stepped brass foot with a metal base plate keeps this 66-centimeter Art Deco jardinière securely in place. The bulbous pot is spun from a single piece of brass and rests on a black lacquered wooden stem. Two grooved bands with black lacquer and brass cuffs give the characteristic Art Deco contrast of brass and black. With a fern inside, the fern-green looks fresh against warm brass and deep black.

Description:
The pot features two bulging curves one above the other and a flared collar. It is spun: pressed on a lathe over a mold, seamless and without hammer marks. In both grooves there is black lacquer, with a thin blank line along it. A thick, black-lacquered wooden disk bears the pot, and brass cuffs frame the stem above and below. The stepped dome foot is fixed at the bottom with a nut. A metal base plate with three round studs carries the weight low. Bare brass contrasts with black, stacked curves and horizontal bands: this is the Art Deco form language, without ornament.
About the maker:
Attributed to the West European metalware industry of the interwar period. Spun brass was mass-produced for the finer interior. The contrast of bare brass with black lacquer is typical of Art Deco in those years.
In the interior:
Next to a lounge chair by the window, the bulbous pot catches the afternoon light; the black keeps the stem slim and calm.

Condition:
Good, with signs of use, in original state. Pot: scratches and blotchy oxidation on the brass, greenish residue on the inner edge. Disk and stem: the black lacquer is locally worn. Bottom of the foot: rust on the metal base plate and white paint splatters. See the photos. It sits a little loose and has some play, but for its age that is fine.
