Snuff box - .800 silver

Silver tobacco box in Empire style ("Retour d'Égypte"), France, late 19th / early 20th century.

Provenance: France (Paris). Approved with the French guarantee "tête de sanglier" (wild boar head, 1838–1961) for small silver objects. In the lid is the hallmark 800.

Description: The lid features a repoussé and engraved scene of two lying sphinxes around a pharaoh's head, with palm fronds and floral motifs. The relief is partly gilded. The sides have raised tendrils and the bottom is engraved with a shell motif. The hinge is continuous.

Condition: Good condition, appropriate for age. Light signs of use and scratches, especially on the bottom. The gilding is locally worn. The hinge closes well. No dents or repairs.
