This handmade Moroccan tray is made from thuya burl, with geometric three-dimensional cube marquetry, natural mother-of-pearl inlays and integrated handles, and measures 40 × 28 × 6 cm.
Description from the seller
This tray is an exceptional piece, completely handmade in true thuya burl, one of the world’s most precious and sought-after woods, sourced exclusively from Morocco.
Its surface features remarkable inlays: hundreds of small burl elements cut into diamonds and assembled one by one to form a geometric cube pattern with a 3D effect. Depending on the viewing angle and the light, the volumes seem to carve in and out, creating a striking result. In the center, delicate inlays of natural mother-of-pearl add a discreet, refined touch of brilliance to the whole.
The specks, tiny knots, and swirls visible on each element are not painted or drawn: they are the fruit of nature itself and appear naturally in the burl. Each small diamond has its own nuances of amber, honey, copper, and mahogany, making every tray unique and impossible to reproduce.
Thuya burl is a true rarity. It grows slowly in the trunk and roots of old trees, often centuries old, and it takes decades, or even centuries, for it to reach a size suitable for work. Only a tiny fraction of trees produce it, making this material rare, limited, and increasingly hard to find.
The tray is edged with solid thuya borders, with two integrated handles to facilitate handling and service. The inlay work, lengthy and meticulous, requires cabinetmaking know-how and great precision: each piece is fitted perfectly so that the assembly is harmonious.
Another benefit: thuya releases a natural wooden scent, warm and pleasant, that gently fills its surroundings. An authentic fragrance, unique to this noble wood, that lasts over time.
This tray can be used daily to serve, present, or store, or displayed as a true decorative piece, placed on a coffee table, console, or hung on the wall. Between a useful object and a work of art, it will bring a touch of luxury and character to your interior. A beautiful acquisition for lovers of fine materials, marquetry, and exquisite craftsmanship.
