A 27 cm bronze sculptural vase in the Brutalist style, attributed to J. Proving and dating from around 1970–1980.
Description from the seller
Brutalist design - Large bronze-cast sculptural vase - J. Proving (XX)
A very powerful and heavy Brutalist design vase, handcrafted in bronze. This unique art object (pièce unique) hails from the heyday of the West European Brutalist art movement (c. the 1970s/1980s).
The vase stands out for its exceptionally rich texture and organic form language. The body features sturdy, hand-hammered facets that beautifully break the light. Around the transition to the neck is a jagged, sculptural collar that evokes cooled lava or rough natural structures. On the inside of the neck is the original dark casting patina/oxidation skin from the bronze casting process, still fully intact. The bottom is fitted with a sleek, flat-ground metal stand ring for a stable stance.
The object on the body is hand-signed by the artist: J. Poving (or J. Proving).
A rare and monumental statement piece for connoisseurs of mid-century metal art and high-quality design.
