A Calacatta marble column handcrafted in Volterra (Pisa), Italy, dating from the 1960s–1970s, measuring 105 cm high, 23 cm wide and 23 cm deep, weighing about 70 kg, in good used condition with light signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
The Calacatta marble column stands out for its elegant veining and is composed of three perfectly aligned sections, creating a visually striking effect.
The lower label bears the heading Ruggieri & Figli, historic Tuscan workshop laboratories, accompanied by the inscription "Turismo" and "Volterra" (partially visible under the fold), which 100% confirms the geographic and manufacturing origin in Volterra (Pisa), a Tuscan excellence in artisanal marble workmanship and a symbol of the artisanal mastery in working Calacatta marble.
The second label with the number 189 handwritten in blue ink represents the old catalog number, inventory for display, or the original price at a fair/store of the period.
Definitive Identification and History
The inscription "Turismo" coupled with Volterra production places this piece precisely in the period of Italy’s economic and tourist boom, between the late 1960s and the 1970s. At that time, Volterra’s historic artisanal workshops opened large showrooms dedicated to Italian and foreign visitors who wanted to purchase premium "travel" furnishings for their homes.
The column is therefore not a mass industrial object, but a handcrafted Italian artistic craft piece certified from Volterra, turned and finished by hand starting from a block.
