This Art Nouveau majolica jardinière, model 1919, was made by Eichwald under Bernhard Bloch in Bohemia around 1898–1905 and features high-relief flowers and leaves.
Description from the seller
Large Art Nouveau Majolica / Barbotine Jardinière – Eichwald (Bernhard Bloch) – Model 1919 – Circa 1900
An exceptionally decorative and characteristic Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) majolica jardinière (flower pot), circa 1900, produced by the renowned Bohemian manufacturer Eichwald (led by Bernhard Bloch).
This model (form number 1919) perfectly reflects the naturalistic aesthetic of the early Jugendstil period. The organic, flowing form is equipped on the sides with characteristic handles featuring a woven basket weave structure.
The front and back are richly decorated with a large, three-dimensionally raised peony/poppy in high relief (barbotine/appliqué), surrounded by detailed green leaves and flower buds. The piece is executed in a technically complex majolica glaze with a beautiful molten color transition: a deep raspberry and aubergine red at the bottom that elegantly flows upward into a lighter, speckled pink-white glaze.
On the underside is the authentic, impressed model number 1919. The absence of an export stamp such as "Made in Czechoslovakia" confirms an early production date before 1918, during the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
