Description from the seller
This extraordinary skull made of petrified wood combines the power of a fossil natural wonder with artisanal craftsmanship. Crafted from millions of years old petrified wood, the sculpture impresses with its deep black to anthracite hues, fine natural grain patterns, and the characteristic structures of fossilized wood. The expressive facial design gives the skull a distinctive and at the same time captivating character.
Petrified wood forms when organic wood is replaced over millions of years by mineral-rich solutions while preserving its original wood structure. Thus, each piece connects the story of an ancient tree with the durability of stone. The natural lines, color gradients, and inclusions make each sculpture a unique one-of-a-kind piece.
Every skull is crafted from a solid piece of petrified wood from Africa and carefully hand-carved. Due to the natural nature of the material, the grain, color variation, and fossil structures differ in each sculpture, making every exemplar a genuine unique piece.
Whether as an extraordinary collectible, impressive decoration, focal point for living or working spaces, or as a special gift for lovers of fossil minerals and unique artworks, this hand-carved skull from petrified wood unites ancient Earth history, high-quality craftsmanship, and impressive natural aesthetics.
Stone: Petrified Wood
Weight: 2809,91g
Size: 160x100x75mm
Treatment: None
Origin: Afrika
It is a fossil wood dating back 200 million years, all parts from a log or branches have been silicified, meaning that organic components were little by little replaced by silicon in the form of jasper, chalcedony and more rarely opal. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone : there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks.
Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood : the silicon.
And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language.
