Description from the seller
West Friesland – 3 guilders 1793 – Hessel Slijper
Republic of the United Netherlands · West Friesland · 3 guilders · 1793 · Silver
Silver 3 guilders 1793 from West Friesland, struck under mint master Hessel Slijper. A representative large-silver issue from the final years of the Republic, with Lady Justice (Onze Lieve Vrouw) and the crowned Generalities Coat of Arms as central motifs.
Remarkable is the execution without a mint or mint master mark, an individually documented variant within this issue.
Obverse:
The Dutch Maiden standing facing forward, in her right hand a spear topped by the liberty cap. Her left elbow rests on the Bible, placed on a richly decorated altar. In the edge the year 1793.
Inscription:
HAC NITIMVR · HANC TVEMVR

The composition unites two important symbols from the visual language of the Republic: the liberty cap as a reference to republican liberty and the Bible as the foundation on which the Dutch Maiden rests.
Reverse:
Crowned Generalities Coat of Arms, with the Dutch lion bearing a raised sword and a bow of arrows. On the sides the denomination 3 – GL.
Inscription:
MO : ARG : ORD : FΠ: BELG : WESTF :
The broad planchet of the 3 guilders provides room for a pronounced monumental design. The Dutch Maiden, the richly worked altar and the large crowned arms make this type one of the characteristic large-silver denominations from the twilight of the Republic.
The dating 1793 places this issue in a historically notable period. Only a few years later, with the upheavals of 1795–1796, the old constitutional order disappeared and the provincial coinage system that existed during the Republic also came to an end.
A characterful West Friesland 3 guilders from 1793, where the execution without a mint or mint master mark forms a distinctive variant within the series. An appealing large silver piece from the late phase of the West Friesland coinage.
Mint master: Hessel Slijper
Variant: without mint or mint master mark
