This pair of antique telescopic candlesticks, dating from 1850–1900, is made of silver plate in the Old Sheffield style.
Description from the seller
Fascinating and elegant pair of antique telescopic candlesticks, dating to the first half of the 19th century (Georgian era, circa 1815–1825), made with the renowned Old Sheffield Plate technique (silver plating on copper sheet).
The candlesticks feature a cylindrical telescopic stem, extendable and height-adjustable. The design fully reflects the Neoclassical style of the period: they are finely decorated with rich repoussé borders in foliate and floral motifs on the circular base, on the intermediate rings, and on the upper bobeche.
The inner structure is equipped with the typical sliding mechanism of the era, still perfectly functional, allowing the height of the candle holders to be raised or lowered at will.
The candlesticks present with a patina of time, color touches, and time-worn marks that authenticate their antiquity.
Height 28 cm
Base 12 cm
