Description from the seller

Roman bronze plaque with openwork zooform decoration and stylized finishes – 1st–3rd centuries AD.

Culture: Roman,

Proposed dating: Imperial period, 1st–3rd centuries AD.

Material: Cast bronze.

An interesting and singular bronze ornamental applied piece, with an elegant symmetrical composition and careful geometric decoration, possibly belonging to an ancient strap or harness fitting from the Roman era.

The piece presents an architectural-outline body, enriched with relief moldings, two circular perforations arranged symmetrically, and a central motif of concentric circles framed by angular lines.

Its upper part is capped by an elaborate composition of triangular elements and divergent moldings, while the lower end presents three projections, with the two lateral ones gracefully curved outward.

Notably, the contrast between the dark bronze background and the reliefs in a earthy golden tone emphasizes the richness of the ornamentation and provides a striking aesthetic presence.

Conservation status: Good visual and apparent structural integrity. It preserves its frontal decoration, both perforations, and the rear ring. It shows surface wear and earthy deposits.

An attractive example of ancient ornamental metalwork, especially interesting for the complexity of its geometric design, the harmony of its composition, and its singular fixation system.
