Description from the seller
Thuya burl and mother-of-pearl: This jewelry box is a piece of exceptional quality, entirely handmade in genuine thuya burl and inlaid with mother-of-pearl, one of the most precious and sought-after woods in the world, coming exclusively from Morocco. It is adorned with natural nacre finely inlaid, which brings a touch of sparkle and refinement to the whole.
The natural pattern of the burl is striking: speckles, small knots and swirls in deep shades of amber, honey, copper and mahogany. These motifs are neither painted nor drawn: they are the natural marks of the burl, presented as they appeared in the wood. The contrast with the iridescent reflections of the nacre gives the box a character that is both warm and precious. Each piece is unique, and its grain is impossible to reproduce.
Thuya burl is truly a rarity. It grows slowly in the trunk and roots of old trees, often centuries old, and it takes decades, even centuries, for it to reach a size sufficient to be worked. Only a tiny portion of trees produce it, which makes it a rare, limited material and increasingly difficult to find.
