Description from the seller

A complete and very luxuriously crafted silver-plated and partly gilded cutlery set, in its original case. This cutlery set was manufactured by the Belgian silversmith Bruno Wiskemann (Wolfers Frères) in the Louis XIV style. The cutlery pieces are stately decorated with laurel wreaths and festoons. The serving pieces as well as the coffee spoons and salt cellars are partly gilded. This gilding served both an aesthetic and a practical purpose: where silver tarnishes in the air and with food residues, gold preserves its luster and leaves no aftertaste. The custom-made, original cutlery case contains two insert trays and a fold-down lid bearing the Bruno Wiskemann logo. The cutlery can be precisely dated to 1924, making it among the earliest productions of the collaboration between Wolfers Frères and Bruno Wiskemann.

The cutlery case contains a handwritten business card from the British shipping and trading company Gellaty Hankey & Co., with a handwritten message indicating that this cutlery was a wedding gift from the firm to the owner in 1924.

Comprising:

- 12 dinner spoons (21.5 cm)
- 12 dinner knives (26.5 cm)
- 12 dinner forks (21.2 cm)
- 12 dessert spoons (18 cm)
- 12 dessert knives (21.5 cm)
- 12 dessert forks (17.9 cm)
- 12 tea spoons (14.5 cm)
- 12 oyster forks (13.3 cm)
- 12 salt spoons (11.6 cm)

Serving utensils:
- Soup spoon
- Cake server
- Salad spoon
- Salad fork
- Sugar shaker
- Sugar tongs
- 2 salt cellars
- 2 salt spoons

In total 118 pieces.

In very good condition. The silver layer is nicely preserved and still shines beautifully. The blades of the knives show some oxidation. Some blades of the dessert knives have been heavily used and have been significantly re-sharpened. One dessert knife has a pit in the handle and the dessert forks show some wear on the tines. Please view the photos for an impression.

All pieces marked with [BW][100][B.Wiskemann]

On the reverse of the dinner spoons and dinner forks is a decorative monogram.

This lot will be carefully packed and insured shipped via parcel post, including Track & Trace.
