Description from the seller
Scientific name: Keichousaurus hui, Young 1958 (marine reptile Pachypleurosauridae family)
Location: Guanglin, Guizhou Province of China
Geological Formation: Falang - Huxia Formation
Age: Early Triassic (~242 million years ago)
Size: 7,5 cm - Matrix: 11 cm x 8,5 cm x 1 cm
Ref: J724
Observations: An exceptionally well-preserved juvenile specimen of Keichosaurus hui, remarkable for its outstanding preservation and minimal restoration.
Unlike most specimens available on the market, approximately 95% of this fossil remains completely natural and unrestored. The entire skeleton has been carefully prepared using sandblasting techniques, preserving its original anatomical details.
Only minor restorations and subtle color enhancements have been applied to limited areas of the skull. The surrounding matrix exhibits a few fractures that have been professionally rejoined.
An outstanding and highly desirable juvenile specimen, distinguished by its exceptional preservation, authenticity, and remarkably minimal restoration.
Keichousaurus hui is a small marine reptile from the Triassic of southern China. A member of the Pachypleurosauridae family, with a long neck, paddle-like limbs, and a slender tail, adapted for swimming in shallow marine environments. Fossils, often found in black shale, reveal a diet of small fish and invertebrates, inferred from its needle-like teeth.
It is also very interesting to observe how the veins of natural calcite that run through the rock also run through the fossil, an indicator that the bones are all authentic, since the mineralization processes that the rock subsequently underwent along its natural fractures, mineralized everything, including the parts that ran through the skeleton.
All of our fossils come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Every week, the issued Certificates of Authenticity are updated in our database verification system on our website. If you find that your certificate has not yet been updated, please contact us and we will update it immediately. Display box not included.
