The Sony TA-E86B stereo preamplifier, dating from circa 1978–1982, is in good physical condition, has been tested and works, and includes a power cable.
Description from the seller
In the late 1970s, Sony decided to show what was technically possible when money was no object. The result was the 86-series: studio gear disguised as consumer hi-fi. The TA-E86B is, within that line, a rare, legendary preamplifier that directly shaped the precursor to Sony’s later ultra-high-end ESPRIT label. The ‘B’ stands for the deep gunmetal-gray studio finish, at the time a bold and exclusive choice among all the standard silver-colored aluminum.
Under the hood, Sony built an uncompromising, fully discrete Class A circuit. There isn’t a single capacitor in the direct signal path, letting the frequency response extend to an insane 500,000 Hz: unprecedentedly fast, dry, and analytically precise. Among vinyl enthusiasts, this unit is a holy grail thanks to the phenomenally built phono stage. It has a dedicated Moving Coil (MC) input with low-noise FETs and lets you, via a solid knurled knob, perfectly match the impedance of your MM cartridge down to the last ohm. Add the robust ALPS stepped volume control and the characteristic 19-inch rack ears, and you have a beast of an analog preamplifier that is rarely found on the market.
The unit is sold as a standalone preamplifier.
Condition:
Neat vintage condition with normal light signs of age on the front and the chassis. Technically checked and tested; all inputs and outputs, knobs, selectors, and the phono section function as they should.
