Madagascar; Natural purple lepidolite polished mineral sphere, 87 mm in diameter, 930 g, lavender‑violet mica with white crystalline patterns.
Description from the seller
Lepidolite – The violet nuances of mica
Carved and polished sphere from a rock rich in lepidolite, characterized by an fascinating combination of purple, lilac, and lavender tones, traversed by diffuse white-silver crystalline formations. The surface features an irregular and particularly articulated pattern, in which areas of intense purple alternate with lighter zones, small crystalline aggregates, and thin lamellar structures that produce delicate reflections under light.
The spherical working allows observation of the mineral distribution from every angle. In some areas the purple coloration appears compact and uniform, while in others it opens up to a granular texture, with elongated clear crystals, small veins, and grayish semi-transparent inclusions. The result is a natural composition in which the diversity of mineral structures becomes the main decorative element.
Lepidolite is a traditional designation used for some micas rich in lithium, minerals belonging to the group of phyllosilicates. Their crystal structure is characterized by the arrangement of atoms in thin layers, responsible for the typical lamellar cleavage of micas. The colors from pink to purple are generally associated with the presence of manganese in the mineral structure.
These minerals frequently develop in granitic pegmatites, geological environments in which residual fluids rich in elements such as lithium, rubidium, and cesium favor the formation of particular mineral associations. Lepidolite can be found together with quartz, feldspars, and other pegmatitic minerals, giving rise to materials with very different colors and textures.
The name lepidolite derives from the Greek lepis, meaning scale, referring to the mineral's lamellar structure. In the tradition of ornamental stones and crystal therapy it is associated with tranquility and emotional balance, symbolic interpretations that do not constitute scientifically proven therapeutic properties.
Polishing enhances the combination between the mica's violet component and the clear crystalline formations, making this sphere interesting both for mineralogical collecting and as a decorative element for contemporary interiors, studies, and natural history collections.
