Large Murano Glass Filigree Pendant Lamp – 1970s
Splendid and majestic vintage hanging lamp from the Mid-Century Modern period (circa 1970), characterized by a large spherical-ellipsoidal diffuser in premium hand-blown Murano glass.
The glass features a refined artistic half-filigrane (half filigree) or twisted technique with white and transparent canes winding into a dense geometric spiral. At the exact center of the spiral is clearly visible the "pontello" (the mark where the cane detaches from the furnace) with a small natural whitish inclusion: this detail represents the indelible signature of the entirely handmade artisanal workmanship, a fundamental element certifying the Murano authenticity of the piece. When lit, the lamp shields the bulb, projecting evocative geometric shadow patterns on the walls.
The internal mounting is of the highest technical quality, specifically designed to support the weight of substantial glass: it consists of a solid zinc-coated metal support bracket and an original lampholder with a ceramic core. The outer dome, the chain, and the coordinated ceiling rosette are brass. The metal retains its charming patina and natural surface oxidation, attesting to the age and originality of the piece. The work is stylistically attributable to the prestigious Venetian design production of the era (Venini / VeArt style).
The internal wiring is original to the period with a transparent/gold cable (functional). The glass diffuser is in excellent condition, intact and free of runs or chips.
