Description from the seller
Rare 19th Century French Palais Royal Sewing Nécessaire - Mother-of-Pearl & Crystal - Boxed Set
An exquisite and highly collectible 19th-century French "Palais Royal" style sewing Nécessaire / vanity set, presented in its original wooden box with a custom-fitted velvet tray.
This elegant set features a collection of beautifully crafted embroidery tools, mostly made from fine mother-of-pearl, typical of the luxury craftsmanship of the Victorian era. It is rare to find a set that still retains its most sought-after original accessories.
The set includes:
• Antique embroidery scissors: Elegantly decorated handles with steel blades.
• Crystal perfume/scent bottle: Finely cut crystal body with its original screw-top cap.
• Mother-of-pearl needle case / etui: A sliding case with stunning iridescent reflections.
• Stiletto / Awl: Featuring a decorated handle, used for piercing fabric.
• Two thread spools / bobbins: Delicately carved for silk or fine threads.
• Decorative mother-of-pearl discs: Intricately carved, placed in the round compartments.
• Embroidered lid insert: Featuring a charming floral motif insert on the top tray.
• Original monogrammed paper seal / label: A black and gold emblem showing high-end provenance.
Condition Report:
• Tools: Overall in excellent antique condition. The mother-of-pearl items and the crystal bottle are well-preserved with only minor age-related wear, consistent with their age.
• Box & Tray: The wooden box and the fitted interior tray show a beautiful, authentic patina. The lid hinges and clasp function properly.
• Mirror Note: Please note that the original interior mirror on the inside of the lid is broken/damaged (as clearly shown in the photos). It can be left as-is for historic authenticity or replaced by the buyer.
Please study the high-resolution photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description regarding the condition and completeness of this lot.
A wonderful and genuine piece of social and textile history, perfect for serious collectors of antique sewing tools or Palais Royal objects.
