Lion Thaler 1660
A very interesting and scarce contemporary imitation of a lion thaler with the year 1660. A silver-plated copper coin, previously attributed to the County of Rietberg in Germany. Nowadays the origin is sought in northern Italy or the Levant. Described by Gamberini in "Studio sul löwenthaler ed il mezzo löwenthaler delle Province Unite d'Olanda e sulle loro imitazioni e contraffazioni italiane e straniere" under no. 54
Obverse: Knight to the right with the provincial coat of arms +MO ARC FRO CN - EOED RIDTHE. Reverse: Standing lion + CONFIDENS DNO NON MOVETVR, 23.89 grams, diameter 41 mm
