Description from the seller

Shot glass/vodka glass vintage antique Russian Imperial brand 84 in sterling silver (1800). Pair of Russian vodka glasses in silver with hand engravings.
Measures of the glass: height 4.3 cm, diameter 3.5 cm, weight 37 g for the pair.

Russian silver objects were traditionally produced by master craftsmen and large manufactories located mainly in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. These small glasses were born at the end of the 19th century to serve vodka during traditional banquets and popular festivities. The work was usually done by hand through graver engraving and the niello technique on silver of eighty-four zolotniki fineness.

Such items were used in bourgeois and aristocratic homes during receptions and traditional holidays. They were jealously kept inside display cases and used exclusively on special occasions to welcome guests with fine liqueurs. With the historical changes of the twentieth century and mass industrial production, the use of these refined artisanal pieces was gradually abandoned.
