Description from the seller
Antique Table Clock – Rearing Horse with Groom – Working Mechanical Movement – First Half of the 20th Century
A fascinating and striking antique table clock, presumably dating from the first half of the 20th century, featuring an unusual sculptural composition with an equestrian subject.
The piece depicts an imposing horse rearing on its hind legs, alongside a male figure, probably a groom or horse trainer, shown holding the animal back by the reins.
The composition stands out for its remarkable sense of movement, the attention to the horse’s anatomical details, its sculpted mane, and the expressiveness of the human figure.
The structure appears to be made of patinated metal, probably regule, a material frequently used in the production of decorative objects from the late 19th century through the first half of the 20th century.
The dark, bronze-effect finish gives the piece an elegant, antique appearance.
A circular clock is set into the lower part of the composition, framed by raised ornamental details.
The light-colored dial features black Arabic numerals, metal hands, and a small central monogram, apparently formed by the letters SF, whose attribution has not been identified with certainty.
The mechanical movement is located at the back, with an integrated winding key and a rate-adjustment device.
