AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Qur'an - Herat - Timurid - AD1460. This manuscript leaf from a Qur'an scribed shortly after Shah Rukh’s reign at a time of great political turmoil. It contains scripture from chapter 42, Ash-Shura (Consultation), v.11-15. These emphasise God's unique nature, the continuity of the prophetic message, and the call to steadfast unity and justice. In verses 15 the Prophet is instructed to: "I believe in whatever Scripture God has sent down, and I have been commanded to judge justly between you. God is our Lord and your Lord. We have our deeds and you have your deeds. There is no need for argument between us and you. God will bring us together, and to Him is the final return."

The leaf contains 14 lines of elegant naskhi script in black ink and in an educated calligraphic hand. The leaf has a single marginal(Juz) in blue marking the final 40th verse division of the Chapter. The leaf is fully framed in gold and blue lines.

This is a good clean copy and very well preserved for its age dating from around the time of the fall of Constantinople to Islam in 1453.

Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.

Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.

New German customs regulations mean that we are now having to pay customs before the item leaves the UK. Regrettably we have to pass these costs on through a surcharge on postage to Germany. As we don't know the final auctions costs we have estimated the approximate value. If the custom costs more than we have anticipated, we will absorb the additional customs duty.
