Description from the seller
Antique Neo-Renaissance Sideboard Cabinet ca. 1880–1910 – Rich Carving
Due to a move, we sadly offer this beautiful, richly decorated antique sideboard cabinet. Unfortunately the cabinet no longer fits in our new home, so we hope to find a new owner who will value this special piece as much as we do.
The cabinet has been in our possession for at least 40 years and was purchased from an antiques dealer as far as we can recall.
Style and likely age
This impressive sideboard is executed in Neo-Renaissance style and probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century, circa 1880–1910.
Characteristic are the exceptionally rich and detailed woodcarving, the turned columns, graceful balustrades and the many decorative ornaments.
Especially the beautifully carved human faces, figures and floral motifs make this cabinet distinctive. Also the four notable carved figures above the central display section and the elegant fittings contribute to the characterful appearance.
The warm wood tone and fine detailing give the piece an authentic, stately look.
The exact age, type of wood and origin are not documented.
Layout
The cabinet consists of two separate parts:
Lower cabinet
- Two doors with richly decorated panels.
- A broad drawer above the doors.
- Generous storage space with shelf.
- Beautiful decorative fittings and carved ornaments.
Upper cabinet
- Central display section with two glass doors.
- Two small drawers with decorative fronts.
- Open side sections with graceful balustrades and turned columns.
- Exceptionally detailed woodcarving with human figures and ornaments.
The upper cabinet sits freely on the lower cabinet, so the piece can be transported in two large parts.
Dimensions
- Total height: 252 cm
- Width: 145 cm
- Depth: 60 cm
- Height lower cabinet: 107 cm
- Height upper cabinet: about 145 cm
Condition
Given the probable age, the cabinet is in a nice, authentic used condition.
Naturally there are signs of wear and age. There are a few minor damages to the woodcarving and the moldings, and two small decorative points are missing.
Additionally, there is an old ink stain on the interior of one cabinet section. This is not visible from the outside.
The stated damages are clearly documented in the photos for completeness.
The cabinet has not been restored and retains its characterful appearance.
Pickup and transport
Note: The cabinet is located in a upstairs apartment and must be moved down via the stairs for pickup.
Although the upper and lower cabinets can be transported separately, it is a large and heavy piece of furniture.
Please account for sufficient manpower and suitable transport.
The buyer is responsible for picking up and transporting the cabinet.
Viewing is possible by arrangement.
A special piece of furniture with a history
This cabinet has been part of our interior for more than four decades. It is therefore not an easy decision to part with it.
Because of its impressive size, the rich woodcarving and the distinctive ornaments, it is a real eye-catcher.
A beautiful piece for an antique enthusiast, a characterful interior, or someone seeking a special historic piece of furniture.
We hope the cabinet will find a wonderful new home where it will be appreciated for many years to come.
Serious interest and a suitable offer are warmly welcome.
