Description from the seller
An interesting medieval bronze amulet depicting a stylized horse / lynx, dating to the 11th–13th century AD.
A beautifully stylized, openwork four-legged animal, traditionally identified in archaeological literature as a horse or a lynx. The creature features alert, pointed ears (or ear tufts) and distinct proportions characteristic of the era.
The flank of the body is decorated with incised "ring-and-dot" solar or cosmic motifs—archaic protective symbols designed to ward off bad luck and welcome fertility. The feet terminate in circular loop openwork where tiny bronze bells or duck-foot dangles originally hung, clinking with movement to frighten away malicious entities.
Features a large, fully intact cast suspension loop integrated directly onto the back of the animal, allowing the amulet to be worn as an authentic piece of ancient history or displayed elegantly.
Condition: Good archaeological condition, with age-related wear and patination. Please see the photographs for details.
