This American industrial-design brass table and wall lamp has an adjustable holder and comes with a working period filament bulb dating to around 1910–1920.
Description from the seller
Description of the Lot:
For sale a rare solid brass table and wall lamp with an adjustable joint, complete with its extraordinary original vintage incandescent filament bulb, in working order. A piece with strong historical and aesthetic charm, perfect for lighting design collectors, industrial antiquarians, or to enrich a Wunderkammer.
Lamp Characteristics and Construction:
Material: Entirely solid brass construction, finely worked. It features a stepped fluted circular base and a finely shaped turned shaft.
Adjustable Joint: The lampholder is mounted on a fork with adjustable tilt, allowing the light beam to be oriented freely at various angles.
Dual Use (Table / Wall Sconce): The base has a rear metal slot designed for wall mounting, enabling use as a desk lamp as well as a wall sconce.
Wiring and Details: Functional electrical system with an age-era braided fabric cord and a lampholder equipped with an integrated knob switch.
Collectible Focus: The Vintage Bulb (ca. 1910–1920)
An exceptionally valuable overall piece is the large, intact and fully functional incandescent filament bulb:
Shape and Blowing Technique: Globe-shaped form (pear/squat shape) characterized by the classic "pip" (the glass closing point at the top), evidence of artisanal mouth-blown and manually evacuated air production.
Squirrel-Cage Filament: Inside there is a continuous filament suspended on a refined central spoke-like support, designed in the early 20th century to ensure maximum light diffusion.
Era: The combination of the glass tip and the filament architecture places the bulb’s production between 1910 and the early 1920s of the 20th century.
Luminosity: When lit, it emits a suggestive warm light at a low color temperature that highlights the filament interweaving.
Conditions:
The lamp is in good conservational condition with a splendid natural patina on the brass and light signs of aging in keeping with its age. The electrical system is functional and the bulb is intact and lights up regularly. Prospective buyers are invited to view the photo set carefully, which constitutes an integral part of the description.
