Description from the seller
Northern Netherlands – Republic of the United Netherlands – Province of Holland
Silver 10 stuiver 1749, minted for the Province of Holland under mintmaster Otto Buck, without a mint mark.
Obverse: Dutch Virgin with in the right hand a spear with a liberty cap, with the left arm resting on the Bible, placed on a richly decorated pillar. Legend:
HANC TVEMVR · HAC NITIMVR
We protect these, we rely on them.
Reverse: crowned coat of arms of Holland with the rising lion, equipped with a sword and a bundle of arrows. On either side the denomination X – ST, above the crown the year 17·49. Legend:
MO · ARG · ORD · FŒD · BELG · HOLL
A sharp and boldly struck specimen with strongly preserved relief and exceptionally much detail. On the obverse the facial features, clothing folds, the liberty cap and the ornamentation of the pillar are clearly worked out. The reverse shows a pronounced Dutch lion and a detailed crown.
The deep silver-gray patina in the fields forms a strong contrast with the higher parts and gives the coin pronounced depth. Legends, year, denomination and edge are convincingly present. A characterful specimen with a strong numismatic presentation.
