Description from the seller

Quality antique silver-plated coffee pot “Armand Frenais”, France, 19th century

Elegant antique pouring pot/coffee pot on four graceful feet. The pot is executed in the Eclectic/Neo style with strong Rococo revival (Louis XV style) elements. This is visible in the asymmetric acanthus leaves on the feet, the garlands on the body, and the graceful, twisted spout and handle. The handle contains two white rings (made of bone or ivory). This was at the time a clever functional invention: they ensured that the heat of the hot drink did not travel to the handle, so fingers wouldn’t burn when pouring.

At the bottom is the master hallmark of the well-known French silversmith Armand Frenais. He opened his workshop in Paris around 1877, located at Rue de Pastourelle 13, hence the number 13 in the stamp. Frenais was an absolute specialist and one of the great competitors of Christofle in high-quality silver-plated tableware (métal argenté). He supplied, among others, to the nobility, fashionable hotels and shipping lines. On the left you see a square stamp with an anchor; this is the official French factory mark for top-quality silver plating that Frenais used.

The number 24: This stands for the grammage. It indicates how many grams of pure silver were used in the galvanic baths to silver a specific batch of this dishware. A number like 24 denotes a very thick, durable silver layer of good quality that does not wear away easily with polishing.

The letter A: This is a French quality mark (guarantee) that represents the highest category of silvering (First Quality).

The pot is in beautiful antique condition; there are 2 light dents and the top of the pot tilts a bit, but this is a trivial matter for a “handy Harry” and does not detract from the quality of this piece.

Indeed a jewel on the festive table.
