A collection of 200+ different Austrian and Liechtenstein Notgeld banknotes dated 1915–1920, including notes related to the Marchtrenk and Grödig prisoner-of-war camps.
Description from the seller
Large and highly diverse collection of 200+ different Notgeld banknotes from Austria and Liechtenstein, dating from the World War I period ( Prisoner of War Camp) and the years immediately following.
This impressive lot includes a wide range of emergency issues, local currencies and regional banknotes, reflecting the economic instability and monetary shortages during and after World War I. The notes feature a rich variety of artistic designs, including city views, coats of arms, historical scenes and decorative typography typical for Notgeld issues.
A particularly interesting feature is the inclusion of POW-related material, including notes connected to Marchtrenk and Grodig, adding an important historical dimension linked to World War I prisoner-of-war camps. Such pieces are highly collectible and sought after due to their historical context and relative scarcity.
Notgeld issues from this period are valued not only as currency but also as historical documents and miniature artworks, making large and varied collections like this increasingly desirable among collectors.
A substantial and attractive collection with strong historical relevance and excellent diversity.
