This large Italian antique Luigi XVI-style mirror from 1850–1900 has a wooden frame with glass and a patinated gilded finish.
AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
Large Italian gilded wooden wall mirror, characterized by substantial dimensions and a particularly deep and sturdy frame.
The frame features rich decoration with large acanthus leaf motifs applied to the four corners and an elegant beaded inner profile that frames the mirror. The raised decorations appear plausibly crafted in stucco on a wooden structure, following traditional decorative techniques.
The surface retains an attractive gilded finish with patina and signs of age. Since no specific analysis of the gilding has been carried out, it is not stated as gold leaf.
Dimensions and weight
External dimensions: 116 × 94 cm
Maximum depth: 11 cm
Mirror size: 84 × 62 cm
Total weight: approximately 21 kg
The remarkable dimensions, depth of about 11 cm, and weight of about 21 kg confer the wall mirror with a commanding and dramatic presence.
Condition
The wall mirror is preserved in the conditions visible in the photographs and shows signs of age and use compatible with its age, including wear and abrasions of the gilded finish, cracks, small chips and localized losses in the decorations and in the preparatory layers.
The mirror, presumably not recent, shows some small marks and imperfections compatible with its age.
The back preserves the coating and the suspension system visible in the photographs.
Provenance: furnishings from an important Bologna villa.
A decorative wall mirror of notable presence, suitable for both classic interiors and as a contrasting element in contemporary settings.
The photographs are an integral part of the description, and you are invited to examine them closely for an accurate assessment of the conservation condition.
