This Arabic Qur’anic folio from Bihar, India, dates to 1425 and is written in Bihari script, with gold verse markers.
Description from the seller
An exceptional large format Qur'anic folio, circa 1425, originating from Bihar, India, a prosperous state, lying south of Nepal close bordering the Ganges river, which became Muslim in the 12th century originally under the Bengal Governors. It is large format written in a unique cursive style called 'Bihari' which was used by India Qur'ans between the late C14th-C16th. The scripts main features re wide, extended horizontal lines and more delicate verticals. Decorative aya in gold separate the verses of the scripture. It is in remarkable condition given its age.
This folio contains verses scripture from chapter 39, al-Zumar (The Troops) v:37-38, which address the issue of absolute divine guidance, the powerlessness of false gods (idols), and complete reliance on God. The margin text bridges the missing text from verse 37 (incomplete on this page) joining the preceding page to this page. The key messages fan this text are: to remind believers that God has the supreme authority to uphold His promise and hold wrongdoers accountable and to instruct the Prophet to declare that God is entirely sufficient (Hasbiyallah), and for true believers to place their complete trust (tawakkul) in Him alone rather than in creation.

Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
New German customs regulations mean that we are now having to pay customs before the item leaves the UK. Regrettably we have to pass these costs on through a surcharge on postage to Germany. As we don't know the final auctions costs we have estimated the approximate value. If the custom costs more than we have anticipated, we will absorb the additional customs duty.
