This postally used 2 Crazie Sassone 5f from the Italian States of Tuscany, dated 1857, bears the rare “PISTOIA” P.11 cancellation and comes with a certificate.
Description from the seller
Grand Duchy of Tuscany – 1857
Valuable large part of a letter sent from Pistoia on June 4, 1857 and addressed to Borgo San Lorenzo, correctly stamped for the first port with 2 green-blue cialines on gray, watermark “corona e linee”, Sassone no. 5f.
A noteworthy historical-postal element is the rare linear dateless cancellation “PISTOIA”, classified Points 11, printed directly on the stamp and accompanied by the distinctive double-circle ornamental oval “PISTOIA 4 GIU. 1857”.
The lot is accompanied by a photographic certificate by Fabio Sottoriva dated May 21, 2024, attesting to the authenticity of the document, the stamp, and the cancellations, describing the stamp as fresh, well margined, and perfect. The certificate also explicitly highlights the rarity of the Pistoia nominative cancel, of which the expert states to know only a few other typologically similar cases.
Sassone catalog references:
Sassone no. 5f on cover: €1,600
Nominative cancellation “PISTOIA” P.11: €3,600
Overall reference value: €5,200
The stamp, certifiably perfect, additionally shows a value of €350 as a single used perfect specimen; this value is stated solely as a qualitative reference and is not added again to the overall valuation of €5,200.
An especially interesting combination of stamp quality, rarity of the P.11 cancellation, correct postage tariff, and specialized certification, which makes the piece suitable for an advanced collection of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Tuscan cancellations, and the postal history of the Italian States.
Provenance: private collection.
Front, back, and certificate photographs are an integral part of the description and must be carefully reviewed for a complete assessment of the lot.
Careful, protected, and trackable shipping.
