An Italian 800-silver jug, weighing 791 g and standing 26 cm high, with a repoussé and chased body decorated with floral motifs and scrolls, bearing the Palermo maker’s mark 77 PA.
Description from the seller
Presentation Card: 800 Silver Jug/Crater Bottle (Carafe/Bottle) in Silver 800
General Description
Elegant carafe in solid silver with 800 fineness, Italian manufacture, dating from the second half of the 20th century (about the 70s/80s). The piece features a globular body richly decorated with repoussé and chasing motifs, including floral elements and classical scrolls. The bottom part is characterized by refined radial beading that gives the structure a sense of motion.
Technical Details
Material: Silver 800 thousandths (guaranteed by the original hallmarks).
Total Weight: 791 grams.
Condition: Excellent structural condition. The object shows a natural patina of oxidation that attests to its authenticity and age; no significant dents or repairs are evident.
Manufacture: Italian, identified by the factory marks.
Analysis of Marks and Stampings
From the analysis of the base of the object the following authenticity elements are detected:
Pendant/Title Mark: Hallmark "800" enclosed in an oval, certifying the purity of the metal.
Identification Mark: Stamp "77 PA" inside a hexagonal lozenge. This indicates the piece was made in Palermo (PA) by the registered producer number 77.
Author's Signature: A hand-engraved signature is present (appears to read "Hand Work" or the silversmith's signature), underscoring its artisanal nature.
Retail Label: The original sticker from the historic jewelry store "Di Cristofalo - Palermo" is present, noted for its selection of high-quality silverware and prestigious wedding lists.
Value Elements for the Expert
Specific Weight: With almost 800 grams of solid silver, the piece has considerable intrinsic value based on the current metal price.
Provenance: Traceability to a historic Palermo retailer and the definite identification of the producer increase its collectible marketability.
Craftsmanship: The complexity of the ornamentation and the manual repoussé technique elevate the piece from a simple household item to an artistic artifact. I believe that if evaluated, it would be polished and photographed more effectively."}
