This bronze jewellery casket, dating from 1880–1920, is decorated in the Neo-Renaissance style with child figures, flowers and scrolling foliage.
Description from the seller
Richly decorated bronze jewelry box – child figures and floral garlands – probably around 1900
A small showpiece with a wealth of details. This graceful jewelry box draws the eye with its gold-toned appearance and exuberant relief decoration. Flowers, curling tendrils, and playful child figures fill the framed panels, making the box from multiple angles attractive to view.
On the lid there is a child figure among lush leaf-and-flower motifs. The front shows two figures on either side of a dish with fruit. Shiny, raised areas contrast with the darker recessed areas, thereby emphasizing the relief.
The decoration aligns with the Neorenaissance: a style in which historical ornaments, classical figures, and graceful scrolls were reapplied. Such richly decorated boxes were loved as a storage place for jewelry and small personal valuables.
The hinged lid opens to an interior with green fabric lining. A atmospheric object for a dressing table, an antique desk, or a collection of decorative metalwork.
