Romanian Vintage Embroidered Wall Hanging 180x200 cm - Hand-Embroidered Wool on Black Cotton - 12 Red Roses - Păretar - 1960s
Authentic vintage Romanian folk art textile - Păretar / wall hanging - hand-embroidered in Romania, circa 1960s-1970s.
Technique: Hand-embroidered with wool yarn (Romanian "lâniță") on black cotton fabric. The pattern is not woven, it is entirely hand-stitched with thick, raised wool stitches. Two cotton panels sewn together in center (traditional). Back side shows embroidery threads - see photos.
Materials:
- Base: Black cotton fabric
- Thread: 100% wool (lâniță)
Design: 12 large stylized roses in red / orange with white highlights, central medallion with 4 roses enclosed in baroque scroll frame in beige / ochre, green foliage, small blue flowers and white-red buds on black ground. Beige zig-zag border.
Origin: Oltenia, Romania
Age: Circa 1960-1970
Dimensions: 180 x 200 cm
Condition: Good vintage. Bright colors, intact embroidery. Small hole / thin area in cotton ground near border (see close-up photo 5). Light age wear. See photos - they are part of description.
