Description from the seller

Description :

Exceptional historic and postal assembly composed of [154] authentic pieces, carefully selected and stored in sleeves. This cross-cut lot of very high presentation offers a true journey through Postal History, structured around three main axes:

1. Pre-philately, Classics and Business Correspondence
Magnificent Empire and Ceres stamps (15c and 20c blue) on legal and banking covers (notaries, sworn interpreters, Crédit Agricole, Paris Stock Exchange).
Excellent strike quality: large/small figure diamonds, provincial date stamps and company marks.

2. Military Monograph: Prisoners of War (WW1/WW2), Censorship and Vaguemestres
The heart of the lot: An in-depth study of the Dépôt de P.G. of Romans-sur-Isère and its network. Numerous rare censorship marks from Detachment Chiefs (Bozel, St-Nazaire-en-Royans, Lyon factory towns) and from hospitals (Malestroit, Nevers).
Exceptional censorship marks: large seal of the Postal Control of Pontarlier, "Geprüft" / Überwachungsstelle German, interpreter visas.
Included: Superb set of the D.C.A. (Colonial Artillery) in Morocco in 1927 (Vaguemestre stamp very clear) accompanied by two long handwritten letters with dense historical content (camp narratives).

3. Aérophilatélie, Colonies and International Mail
Postair global postwar air mail: Peru, Haiti (recommended), Chile, Cuba with superb transit marks on the back (Miami, Washington D.C.).
Colonial and transitional mail: A.O.F. (Direction de la Sûreté Générale), Senegal, Madagascar, and a very nice selection on the postal birth of Vietnam (Indochina, Saigon, Haiphong with mixed frankings).
Damaged/undelivered mail: Fascinating letter to Argentina stamped with multiple mentions "No Conoce" and "Retour à l'envoyeur".

Condition :
Authentic postal usage. Very good overall preservation for documents that actually traveled. All 190 photos presented in the listing reflect the quality and completeness of the lot. Very careful shipping, reinforced and insured.
