This antique British writing slope, made of wood with rosewood exterior and mahogany interior, dates from 1850–1900 and has brass fittings.
Description from the seller
Large rosewood writing slope with brass fittings – England, circa 1840–1870
A large Victorian writing slope with a beautifully figured flame figure. The case has brass campaign fittings: continuous bands, corner brackets, inlaid strips along the sides, a star-shaped key escutcheon, and a matching decorative plate on the lid.
When opened, the case forms a slanted writing surface, lined with green baize. The interior is mahogany, with a roomy storage compartment, a pen trough, and compartments for ink pots. The brass lock with a steel bolt operates and the key is present.
Dimensions: 50 × 26 × 17 cm (W × D × H, closed)
Condition: Good, with age-appropriate signs of wear to the exterior. The green baize is presumably later replaced. The ink pots are missing. The lock functions and the key is present. See the photos.
