Description from the seller

Group of Three Greece, Parthian Kingdom Mithradates II Drachms
Circa 123-88 BC
A nice group of three Parthian silver drachms issued during the reign of Mithradates II. Each coin bears on the obverse a left-facing portrait of the bearded king, wearing an elaborate royal tiara decorated with a central star or rosette and rows of pearls, with long pendant ties descending behind the head. The portraits are enclosed within beaded circular borders. The reverses depict a seated archer facing right, holding a bow, surrounded by Greek inscriptions arranged in horizontal and vertical lines.
Mithradates II, who ruled the Parthian Empire from approximately 123 to 88 BC, was among the most influential monarchs of the Arsacid dynasty. During his reign, Parthian authority expanded across much of the Iranian plateau and into Mesopotamia, establishing the kingdom as a major political and military power in the ancient Near East. He strengthened diplomatic relations with neighbouring states and received a Roman embassy under Lucius Cornelius Sulla in 92 BC, marking an important early encounter between the two powers. Mithradates II adopted the prestigious title King of Kings, reflecting the imperial ambitions and growing authority of the Arsacid monarchy.
