The uncoloured lithograph *Napoléon a Lonato*, published by Lith. de Turgis à Paris, depicts an episode at Lonato in Lombardy, Brescia, and includes French text with the period spelling “Lonado”.
Description from the seller
The work depicts one of the most famous and legendary military anecdotes of the First Italian Campaign (1796): the formidable "bluff" of Lonato del Garda (Lombardy). The young General Napoleon Bonaparte, caught by surprise with very few men at his disposal, psychologically reverses the outcome of the clash, forcing an entire Austrian column numerically superior to surrender thanks to the sheer force of his charisma.
In the lower part, beneath the splendid and detailed graphic composition, is the original text in French that narrates the historical event in meticulous detail, enriched by the characteristic period misprint that renders the Lombard locality’s name as "Lonado".
The print presents the typical and fascinating patina of time. The paper shows a natural and uniform ivory tone. Generous margins
