Robert Mapplethorpe - Mapplethorpe - 1992

It is the catalog of the great European retrospective of 1992 curated by Germano Celant, which after Mapplethorpe's death (1989) circulated in major European museums, including the Hayward Gallery in London. It is considered one of the most complete monographs on the photographer. It collects portraits, self-portraits, nudes and flower still lifes, from the 1970s to the late 1980s, in addition to works from the final period. On the cover is the famous self-portrait with faun horns from 1985. Celant's essay frames Mapplethorpe's work within classical tradition and sculpture. This Italian edition has been out of print for some time.
