AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Description:
Offered: A beautiful and rare antique tin toy crane / excavator (steam shovel / clam shell digger) from the early 1920s to the early 1930s. This iconic toy piece is modeled after the American manufacturer Structo Toys (Freeport, Illinois), but it concerns a rarer variant with the original stamp "GERMANY" on the underside. This indicates early production under license or for the European export market to circumvent import duties at the time.

Features & Condition:
* 100% Original Condition: The crane is in an honest, unrestored state with a beautiful, authentic patina. The original color combination — a red cab with a blue-green roof and a black boom

* Complete with Grabber and Chain: Unique to this specimen is that the original, fine metal chain and the red grabber (clam shell bucket) are still fully present. On many of these mechanical toys, these parts have been lost or replaced with rope over the decades.

* Mechanism: The original metal winch axle with the crank on the side is present. The mechanism shows light, normal surface rust from age (no perforation rust). The mechanism is complete and with cautious cleaning/lubrication can be made to operate smoothly again.

* Wheels: Equipped with the characteristic lithographed metal spoked wheels with the well-known beige/white rims.

Specifications:
* Material: Tinplate / pressed steel
* Period: circa 1925 - 1935
* Origin: Germany (Structo license/export)
* Marking: Stamped with "GERMANY" on the underside of the base plate.

Approximate dimensions:
20 x 12 x 21 cm (length x width x height)
