Description from the seller
A beautiful hand-carved wooden mask, made by the Bambara in Mali. The Bambara believe in the existence of spiritual forces that are activated by individuals capable of creating an atmosphere of harmony, prosperity, and well-being. Initiation is practiced within associations of men more or less present according to the villages: the n'tomo, which governs community life, the komo, which governs moral offenses, and the twi wara, which brings together young people and farmers
This is an exceptionally fine mask, carved from one block of heavy, solid wood with fine, cubist lines and the protruding lips, typical for Bambara masks.
38 cm high
17 X 18 cm
Overall, very good condition with wear consistent with age and loss from above the right eye. A beautiful mask with a strong presence
