Description from the seller
Large Spanish or Portuguese Baroque cabinet with diamond-point motifs – 17th–18th century
Description:
Imposing two-door Baroque cabinet dating from the 17th or 18th century, originating from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain or Portugal). This high-quality piece is made of dark-stained solid wood (probably oak or walnut) and is distinguished by its rich decoration and its original hand-chiselled bronzeLock hardware.
Top part:
Opens with two large doors adorned with 12 protruding geometric panels, known as the “diamond-point” motif, carved with great precision.
The doors are hinged with gold-toned, chiselled bronze fittings in a flamboyant Gothic or Renaissance style, very workmanlike.
The interior is simple, offering a large storage space.
Bottom part:
As a belt, the piece features two large central drawers framed on either side by a smaller drawer, all with matching front panels to the doors and wood handles.
The lower section opens by two solid doors, also decorated with diamond-point motifs (6 panels each) and chiselled fittings.
The cabinet rests on a sturdy plinth with a moulded lower crosspiece.
Condition:
The piece is in a beautiful overall condition for its age, with a superb original patina.
It shows normal signs of use (small nicks, minor edge wear) that attest to its authenticity and do not affect its structure or aesthetics.
The fittings and locks are original.
Features:
Origin: Spain or Portugal.
Period: 17th–18th century.
Material: Dark-stained solid wood (oak or walnut).
Style: Iberian Baroque.
