Description from the seller
San Marino 1898 - Complete Silver Set (4 Coins) - Elite Preservation FDC / SPL - Certified by Cavaliere - Rare Up for auction is an extraordinary and prestigious complete silver set from the Republic of San Marino, minted in 1898. This lot represents a unique opportunity for collectors of world coins and Italian-area issues, both because of the intrinsic rarity of the individual denominations and the exceptional overall state of preservation, which ranks among the highest on the market.
All four coins are unquestionably authentic and protected in official sealed certificates issued by the esteemed “Numismatica Cavaliere” firm of Francesco Cavaliere (Seregno, MB), which guarantees their authenticity and professional grading.
Lot Details and Grades:
1. 50 Centesimi 1898 – Grade: FDC (Uncirculated)
A coin with splendid original luster, sharp details and no signs of circulation wear. An elite piece.
Mintage: 60,000 pieces.
2. 1 Lira 1898 – Grade: qFDC / FDC (About Uncirculated / Uncirculated)
A magnificent example, fresh from the dies, with perfect details on the reliefs and clean fields.
Extremely low mintage: just 20,000 pieces.
3. 2 Lire 1898 – Grade: SPL (Extremely Fine)
A coin with minimal, even wear, excellent freshness of the metal and a beautiful period patina. It is the rarest piece in terms of mintage.
Low mintage: only 10,000 pieces struck.
4. 5 Lire 1898 “Scudo” – Grade: SPL / FDC (Extremely Fine / Uncirculated)
The highlight and most iconic coin in the entire set. A large-format coin with an exceptional obverse and a mirror-like reverse that approaches absolute Uncirculated perfection. The details of the coat of arms and crowns are extraordinarily crisp.
Mintage: 18,000 pieces.
Numismatic Notes and Value:
The 1898 San Marino set is historically considered very rare (R) and expensive in reference catalogs. Adding together the current official catalog prices in Gigante and Montenegro for these specific, exceptionally high grades (with the 5 Lire alone valued at €1,100 in FDC and around €700 in SPL), the total catalog value of the lot is between €1,800 and €1,950.
An exceptional lot, ready to join a high-level collection.
