This German Art Deco ashtray, made from polished black marble in the 1930s, has a square form with two cigarette rests and is in good used condition with signs of age.
Description from the seller
An exclusive, executive-style ashtray made of solid, polished black marble, originating from Germany and dating to the 1930s. The piece reflects the distinctive Art Deco style of the interwar period, with clear influences from modernism and Bauhaus design.
The ashtray stands out for its geometric, square form, with a deep, circular recess set in the center. On opposite sides are two carefully shaped grooves for resting cigarettes.
Its minimalist form, restrained decoration, geometric proportions, and elegant black marble surface perfectly capture the character of European functional design of the 1930s.
The substantial stone construction lends the piece a sense of solidity and elegance. The ashtray is an interesting example of vintage office furnishings, combining functionality with the timeless aesthetic of modernist design. It is an excellent addition to a collection of Art Deco, Bauhaus, interwar German design, or as a decorative accent in an elegant study, library, or vintage- or industrial-style interior.
