Cane - Walking stick - Bamboo, Metal

An Art Nouveau White Metal-Mounted Bamboo Walking Cane. Continental, circa 1900

The elongated white metal handle finely worked in high relief with two female masks emerging from an elaborate arrangement of flowing hair and sinuous, serpent-like forms, characteristic of the Art Nouveau taste. The sculptural decoration extends around the handle, its undulating contours and richly textured surfaces contrasting with the smooth, polished rim.

Mounted on a bamboo shaft displaying its natural nodes and longitudinal grain, terminating in a brass-toned metal ferrule.

The cane displays surface wear and minor marks consistent with age and use, with areas of natural patination to the metal mounts.
