Description from the seller

Service of dishes produced entirely by hand by Ceramica Artistica Solimene in Vietri sul Mare, for 6 people.

Elegant service of ceramic dishes by Solimene, the most famous manufacturer from Vietri sul Mare, made and decorated by hand according to the tradition of Vietrese ceramics.

The service is complete for 6 people and consists of:
6 flat plates 16 cm
1 tray 26 cm

The ceramic manufacture "C.A.S." (Ceramiche Artistiche Solimene) of Vietri Marina, located in the province of Salerno, was founded in 1937 by Vincenzo Solimene. After a short period, the production, which consisted of furnishings objects such as floor tiles, coverings and maiolicas in the Vietrese style, was interrupted due to wartime events. Toward the end of the Forties, Vincenzo Solimene, together with his sons Antonio, Francesco and Vincenzino, purchased a large plot on Via Madonna degli Angeli in Vietri. On the architect Paolo Soleri's project, in 1951, the construction of a new and larger factory began, equipped with an imposing wood-fired kiln. In 1956, finally, the activity began in the new factory, adopting the name "Ceramiche Artistiche Solimene", and in 1969 the vast complex of the former "Vetreria Meridionale Ricciardi" was acquired. In the Eighties and Nineties, from the factory ovens were produced some ceramics on project by architect Ugo La Pietra. At the beginning of the Nineties, Vincenzo Solimene, together with his children Giovanna, Antonio and Francesco, acquired an old workshop at Bonea and, two years later, the "Bottega-Scuola di Ceramica Centro Studio d'Arte Vietrese" was created. The top floor of the plant houses a museum space in which are kept, besides works by family members, the artistic creations of those who have collaborated with the manufacture over the years. The manufacture closed in 2005.

The decorations, typical of Solimene production, make each piece unique and give the table an elegant and Mediterranean character.

Ideal for daily use, for a seaside home or for collectors and lovers of Italian artistic ceramics.

Seller's Story

My name is Riccardo. I recently graduated in Art History from the University of Florence and I am passionate about porcelain. From tableware to artistic vases, from figurines to tea and coffee sets, I am fascinated by the mastery and creativity of great artisans and designers who manage to shape this fragile material, transforming a rough mass into masterpieces with a story to tell. During my years at university I began to become interested in the history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century tableware; today, every day, I deal with prestigious porcelain pieces that always have something to say to me and to those who purchase them. I love that every day I can discover more about the objects I find while traveling around Italy, always learning something new. I always try to convey to my clients this passion I have for the objects I sell, certain that each of them has a story to tell: that of the creator, that of the one who preserved it, and that of the person who will give it a new life.
