Description from the seller

Decorative reliquary box in Gothic style – rich figurative relief and characterful patina

A special box that invites viewing from all sides. The gold-colored metal shine, dark reliefs and local green patina give this richly adorned piece an impressively weathered character.

The rectangular box features figurative representations in relief on the lid and the walls. Figures in long robes, rider figures and Gothic arch motifs together form a decoration reminiscent of medieval art and architecture. Raised bands divide the scenes into separate panels.

The hinged lid, the prominent overlap lock and the small corner feet reinforce the appearance of a miniature treasure chest. Even when opened, it remains an attractive object, with an undecorated interior that nicely contrasts with the exuberant exterior.

The design aligns with the tradition of richly decorated boxes in which valuables, personal belongings or religious objects were kept. The actual historical use of this specimen is not documented.

A atmospheric addition to a collection of religious art, historizing metalwork or special storage chests.

Features
* Rectangular reliquary or decorative box in Gothic style.
* Gold-colored metal; exact alloy not determined.
* Figurative relief decoration on the lid and around the sides.
* Gothic arch motifs and raised paneling.
* Hinged lid with decorative overlapping clasp.
* Equipped with small corner feet.
* Offered empty, without relics.

Condition
Visible metal connections and machining marks on the underside. There is a small hole in the lid, clearly shown in the last photo. This is hardly noticeable within the rich relief decoration and detracts only modestly from the overall decorative impression.

The photos are an integral part of the description.
