Description from the seller

Sacred Art – Small reliquary / domestic wall altar in carved wood with Crucifix, Virgin and Child, and Saint Bishop – Late 19th / Early 20th century

Charming small reliquary or domestic devotional altar, designed in the shape of an ogive / stylized church façade in carved and varnished wood.

The reliquary comprises three votive niches behind glass:

At the top: A small Christ on the cross (Crucifix) in metal/brass fixed on a wooden background.

Lower left niche: A miniature statuette depicting the Virgin and Child (Holy Mary).

Lower right niche: A molded brass figurine representing a Saint Bishop (such as Saint Nicholas, Saint Martin, or Saint Eloi) wearing the mitre and episcopal crozier.

The piece is equipped with a perforated suspension ring at the top of the structure for original wall mounting.

Origin: Europe (France / Belgium)

Era: Late 19th – Early 20th century (ca. 1890–1920)

Materials: Molded and carved wood, brass/metal, composition figurine, glass

Dimensions: Height 19.5 cm, width 12 cm, depth about 2.5 cm

Glass: Major crack/throughgoing fracture across the protective front glass (visibly clear on the front face).

Wood: Very beautiful patina of the original wood with small signs of age, light wear, and traces of old glue/sealing putty around the edge of the glass.

Interior elements: All three figurines and the crucifix remain firmly fixed inside their niches.
